Oh boy. Ok. So I made it to the second term of the Middle Year of my Major ( Design and Motion Image ). Dont get me wrong, I am very excited about it. But that is just one side of the story. The uncertain future this brings me, is the other side.
For one thing the geography of this major is somewhat limited. Los Angeles, New York, Vancouver, Toronto and and and Hmmmmmmm, Well, thats it. 4 Places!!!! WoW!!!!! Is there another job with a future as limited as this one??
Do you know of one?
On the other hand ( here comes the Third side of things ) I love it. I can not imagine myself doing anything else.
Plus I truely believe that my love for the occupation will make me rather sucesfull at it.
Since I was a little child I wanted to be in the Entertainment industry one way or another. I always loved being around Microphones and Cameras.
I cant count the number of times I pretended to be a television Newscaster , sitting infront of a mirror reading the news.

Has Hollywood reserved a place for me in its future?
I guess thats for the Future to tell.

Untill then.

  1. Methinks you are limiting your career considerations. If you focus on your major alone, anywhere in the world where there are cameras and video editing is a potential place for employment. So basically anywhere in the world is an option.

If you expand out to your graphic design training...well again you have the whole world to choose from.

The "entertainment industry" expands far beyond Hollywood movies and TV. Don't forget about local video production in terms of commercial advertisements, documentaries, corporate and educational video, promotional video, DVD production, private video services (weddings, etc.), and internet-based video production. Independant film making is also found world wide.

You can also try local production companies, local TV news and radio production (you are learning sound editing as well), as well as animated graphics production for TV and internet. With the internet available you could easily work for a production company in another city or country.

    Keep your options open!
